The Power Station, Journey Behind the Falls and the Boat

One day on the Canadian side: the Niagara Parks Power Station and The Tunnel, Journey Behind the Falls and the Niagara City Cruises boat, in what order, how far apart, and what each costs (Oct 2026).

Updated October 2026

The three big views of the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side sit along one 1.8 km stretch of the Niagara Parkway: the Power Station’s tunnel platform at the river, Journey Behind the Falls at Table Rock Centre about 500 m north, and the Niagara City Cruises boat about 1.3 km beyond that. You can walk all three in a day. Start with the station, which opens at 10 am and takes about two hours; Niagara Parks’ own ticket is from US$23 a person on GetYourGuide (checked October 2026).

The order that works

  1. The Power Station, from 10 am. The hall and the tunnel take about two hours. A ticket is good for one entry, so do both parts together.
  2. Journey Behind the Falls, about 500 m north. Walk along the parkway to Table Rock Centre; the attraction opens at 9 am and stays open into the evening, so it fits after the station.
  3. Lunch at Table Rock. Table Rock Centre has a restaurant and a food court beside the falls.
  4. The boat, about 1.3 km further. Walk on along the parkway, or take WEGO, to the Niagara City Cruises dock below Clifton Hill. In late autumn the boats stop earlier, so check the last sailing.

If the boat is closed for the season, the day still works with the station and Journey Behind the Falls, and the night ticket at the station can close it out.

Journey Behind the Falls and the boat

Illustration: a plain red tour boat full of visitors in red ponchos sailing into white mist at the foot of a wide horseshoe-shaped waterfall in daylight, the gorge walls on either side
Illustration. The boat goes into the basin below the Horseshoe Falls; the tunnel platform and Journey Behind the Falls look at the same water from the shore.

Journey Behind the Falls is open all year; Niagara Parks says its lower observation deck closes in winter because of ice, and it lists a new covered, heated viewing platform for spring 2027. behind-the-falls-niagara.com weighs the tunnels against the boat if you only have time for one of them. If you want a wetter ride, the jet boats on the lower Niagara River are a different trip; niagarajetboat.com explains them.

Which is the tunnel?

The two tunnels are often confused. Journey Behind the Falls puts you behind the curtain of water from Table Rock; The Tunnel at the power station is the old tailrace and puts you on a platform in front of the falls at the river. The Tunnel at Niagara Falls explains the station’s.

Prices, seasons and opening times are from niagaraparks.com (the Power Station, The Tunnel and Journey Behind the Falls pages, Niagara Parks’ attraction calendar and its news release on the gorge wall) and niagaracitycruises.com (tickets and Voyage to the Falls), read in October 2026. The GetYourGuide prices, ratings and inclusions are from the listings, read in US dollars on 30 October 2026. Table Rock Centre’s restaurant and food court and the walking distances are taken from the map.
